The application of hydrocyclone in liquid-solid separation began in 1840's, and its modern development is more mature. It is mainly used to separate and remove heavy coarse sediment and other substances in sewage by using different density of water (or other solutions) relative to impurities. Sometimes it is also used for mud dewatering. It is divided into two types: pressure type and gravity type, which are usually made of circular cylinder structure or metal pipe. Water enters along the tangent line from the upper part of the structure (or metal pipe) by pressure or gravity. Under the action of centrifugal force, coarse and heavy particles are thrown to the wall of the device and rotated downward to discharge together with the formed solution. When the smaller particles rotate to a certain extent, they will be discharged with the secondary upward vortex. It is widely used in nonferrous metals, mineral processing, chemical industry, steel and other industries.
